As explained before as the area of a port is increased, the port has to lengthen to keep the box tuning frequency the same. By the way it is not a good idea to put subs in another cabinet. I personally look at the 32m/s figure with disdain, I once built a sub with a flared slot port with modelled velocity of just 22m/s assuming I'd be safe.
